That day in a town outside of La Paz, Mexico, there was beautiful overcast light, and dramatic clouds overhead. We came upon this new masonry construction on this desolate lot along the roadside. It’s form and the enigmatic ladder caught my imaination, so I took the shot. In the studio, going through my library of images, I played with various different visual elements, and finally settled on one from Cuba- a woman sweeping the sidewalk, which I placed as the mistress in her dark portal; and a flock of vultures from a Mexican beach; and finally, the resting dog from a Thailand sidewalk...
A truly international cast brought together in this strange image.
